Initial Steps into the Fit World
Over the past couple of years, I have focused a lot of energy into healthy living. I have struggled with anxiety almost my entire life and every time I approached someone for help I heard the same thing “You need to make a lifestyle change.” So, one step at a time that is exactly what I did.
Here We Go!
The first thing I tackled was the most obvious “lifestyle change”. Physical Fitness. Jumping into this new and improved lifestyle did not happen over night. It happened over the course of many small steps, executed day after day. We call this, The Compound Effect.
Today, I wanted to tell you about those initial steps into the fitness world and how this lazy chick, is now a fit b*tch 😉
Yoga.
We’ve all heard about yogas calming affects, and how it helps you with your mental state in addition to your physical physique. It seemed like it was the obvious answer to someone struggling with anxiety. That was that. I was off to my first class with my roomie at the time (@BadMomKC ) and turns out we picked the most advanced class possible. Needless, to say we looked V silly. I didn’t even know I was suppose to take my shoes off… none the less what a crow or half moon pose was.
After that I was a little thrown off. So, I decided to try a couple YouTube videos from the comfort of my own home. I needed a little practice before showing face in that studio again. So YouTube it was. Five days a week from the comfort of my own room. I did a Ten minute morning routine and a 15 minute nightly routine. It was a simple step that made a huge difference in my life. No, I didn’t see any crazy body changes but after about three weeks I noticed some real differences in my energy levels and a shift in my mindset.
These morning and evening stretches are still incorporated into my weekly routine and served as the “gateway” into my love for physical activity. Not to mention, the first proactive step I took in taking a stance against my anxiety.
My favorite morning & evening routines!
Morning:
Morning routine option 1 (10 minute)
Morning routine option 2 (10 minute)
Morning routine option 3 (30 minute)
Nightly:
Nightly routine option 1 (10 minute)
Nightly routine option 2 (10 minute)
Nightly routine option 3 (30 minute)

I hope this encourages you to take a step out of your comfort zone and begin making little changes that overtime will make a BIG difference!

Big changes start with small steps so it’s awesome you’re working towards something by starting small – soon you’ll be able to attend the class without feeling silly at all!
Hope you are having a really good week so far.
