Call me ol’ fashioned but I still like to look nice when I travel. I’m not the top-knot, leggings and and oversized tee kind of girl. (But hey,.. you do, you!)
Here is the way I look at it… I intentionally bought the tickets for a place I am excited to visit AND more than likely I spent at-least $250 bucks on the flight. So my thought is, I am going to capitalize on the experience. Milk it for all that it’s worth. It’s my time to look and play the part.
My ideal travel outfit, is effortlessly chic, and always comfortable. For fall and winter travel you’re more than likely to find me in some variation of this look:
- An oversized coat (Planes are cold!)
- A comfortable sweater
- Jeans/ Cigarette pants
- and of course some fun sneaks (I always seem to be running to my gate)
The Variations of the look are typically dependent on the destination. Side note: I think one of the biggest ques to a spotting a fashionista is they know how to dress to their setting. The look above would be perfect for a trip to NYC, DC or Chicago. If I’m heading to the west coast, I’d consider some pops of color or adding more white.

Alright, so not only do I like to look good on my flights, I like to feel good. And having been an anxious flyer my entire life sometimes that can be the biggest challenge of all. In order to keep my mental state as cool as my outfit I focus on the following three tips for a easy breezy flight.
- I prepare myself. Sounds basic but this is the biggest one! If I know I am traveling I try not to over-do it in the party department the day before. Alcohol always make my anxiety substantially worse. I also always go-over. This fear is not based on reality. Because the reality is, this is safest form of travel. I also like to prepare myself by packing a couple distractions in my carry-on. Which bring me to my next point…..
- Distractions. I always have a plan for my flight. Say It’s a three hour flight. Perfect, time for a movie and half hour of journaling. I always love to make to-do lists or other lists of sorts.
- Breathe. Just breathe. Before your anxiety even kicks in just breathe. In through your nose out through your mouth. It’s crazy what simple breathing can do for your mental state and how focusing on it can be a distraction within it self.
Lastly, I always say a little prayer before my flight. I think a lot of people do this and honestly it helps and never hurts to ask for an extra layer of protection. Would love to know how you calm you nerves?!
